The Moss Shell splits the chair into two jobs. The outer shell is smooth olive leather. It takes the knocks from luggage trolleys and housekeeping, and it wipes clean. The parts guests actually sit on are a deep, rounded seat and a loose back cushion in a heavy textured jacquard, shown in cream with ochre and deep-green flecks.
Underneath, a brushed-brass ring wraps the base of the seat and carries four slim brass legs. At the back, the rear leg fixes to the shell through a visible brass plate and pin. It is a deliberate hardware detail that reads well when the chair is seen from behind in an open lobby.
Construction
- Hardwood and plywood frame, moulded foam shell
- High-resilience foam seat with fibre wrap; loose back cushion
- Olive leather shell; jacquard cushions; COM/COL accepted for both
- Brushed-brass legs, base ring and back hinge plate
In a lobby, plan pairs around a low table at about 30 in (76 cm) seat-to-seat. The chair also suits guest lounges and executive floors. The cushion fabric is where a designer can bring in the project's accent color without changing the shell.
